Child Development Stages And Therapy
Written by Crystal Yeager
Children grow and develop their personalities over the years. It is never easy for parents to diagnose changes in their child, without assistance. There has been extensive research on child development, and it is now available to parents and professionals, to assist with the growth and development of the child, allowing the child to thrive. Besides developmental milestones, parents are also more apt to seek treatment and therapy for behavioral concerns besides developmental milestones. Before seeking treatment, parents need to understand the different development stages of their child.
Parents can look to Erikson’s Developmental Stages to understand their children best. “Erikson’s theory outlines 8 stages of psychosocial development from infancy to late adulthood. At each stage, individuals face a conflict between two opposing states that shapes personality. Successfully resolving conflicts leads to virtues like hope, will, purpose, and integrity. Failure leads to outcomes like mistrust, guilt, role confusion, and despair” (Varghese, 2023).
Erikson’s Developmental Stages can be used in the home regarding parenting styles about focusing on a child’s strengths and understanding a child’s mind, making parenting easier daily.
