Grounding

There are various techniques that a person can calm or center themselves. Grounding is one of those techniques which is highly effective, and a way to reconnect yourself to calmness and comfort. “Grounding, also called earthing, is a therapeutic technique that involves doing activities that “ground” or electrically reconnect you to the earth. This practice relies on earth science and grounding physics to explain how electrical charges from the earth can have positive effects on your body. This type of grounding therapy isn’t entirely the same as the technique that is used in mental health treatment. Before grounding therapy, physical and emotional stress and pain were common side effects of their physically demanding jobs. After the earthing therapy, pain, stress, depression, and fatigue were all reduced among participants” (Lockett, 2023).
Grounding is a great way to get back to nature and be able to reconnect with the world and with yourself, without any limits or expectations to be met.
According to Greenlaw, some of the signs that indicate you may need to spend more time connected to the natural world include:
• Being easily distracted
• Feeling ‘spaced out’
• Regularly overthinking, ruminating or get stuck in your head
• Engaging in personal dramas
• Experiencing anxiety and perpetual worrying
• A constant need and desire for material things and possessions
• Being easily deceived
• Being obsessed with personal image
Other signs can include difficulty sleeping, weight gain and slow-healing wounds (Chamberlin, 2020).
Grounding is an easy way to be able to allow yourself to reconnect, relieve anxiety, and be able to have alone and self-care time, while focusing on calmness and focus.
