Dealing With Anger And Aggression: In A Healthy Way
Written by Crystal Yeager
Every person deals with anger and aggression in different ways. Angry emotions are normal, but it is not always known how to handle and work through these emotions. Once these emotions are expressed, a person can feel a sense of relief. Here are some helpful tips on how to cope with these feelings:
Count down (or up) to 10. If you’re mad, start at 100.
Take a breather. Your breathing becomes shallower and speeds up as you grow angry.
Go walk around. Exercise can help calm your nerves and reduce anger.
Relax your muscles.
Repeat a mantra.
Stretch.
Mentally escape.
Play some music
It is also important to assess the reasons why you are angry, these feelings can be triggers from your daily surroundings or something from the past. These feelings can be best explored with the help of a therapist and through communication with family or any support system you may have developed (Holland, 2019).
