What Is Self-care, And Where Do You Start?

Self-care starts with you, putting yourself first with engaging in activities you enjoy on your own. Self-care doesn’t always have to be about spending money on extravagant things. Self-care can include aspects such as reading your favorite book, going for a walk/ run and also spending time by yourself and engaging in things that you enjoy that brings your joy.
Self-care helps you deal with stressors that may come your way. Self care involves taking moments to put your physical and emotional health needs first.
The world health organization defines self care as “the ability of individuals , families and communities to promote health, prevent disease, maintain health and cope with illness and disability with or without the support of health workers.”
Self-care also includes taken care of your hygiene, nutrition, medical needs. Self-care is different for many people and it can also change over time. Here are a few ideas of aspects of self care:
Eating a well nourished balanced meal.
Engaging in a relaxing hobby, journaling, implementing positive affirmations to yourself.
